Sorry ocker


This Reddit thread about Australian abbreviations is cracking me up. From http://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/166ggn/in_a_world_first_mcdonalds_in_australia_will/

Its true. I visit Australia a lot. Their main national past time as far as I can tell is to make up nicknames for everything so English speaking people from other countries have no idea what they are talking about.
I remember visiting Cairns (which is a total tourist town by the Great Barrier Reef) and an add came on TV where the Mayor was was warning tourists about West Nile Virus, only he said 'The Mozzies will make you crook'.

I don't see why "The Mozzies will make you crook" is in any way funny or unintelligible. Farken makes heaps of sense.

TIL Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome wasn't meant to depict how language would devolve in a post-apocalyptic environment. That's just how Australians speak.
