I hate 'half naked'

I hate the term 'half naked' .

The term make no sense, just like half pregnant. The definition of naked is that you have no clothes (ignoring things like body paint). Therefore, if you have ANY clothes on you are not, by definition, naked. If I am wearing a swimming costume, I am not naked. If I am wearing a hat - and nothing else - I am still not naked.

Even if we defined 100% clothed as having every bit of skin covered, and 0% clothed (or naked) as having no clothes, then half naked would probably be equal to shorts and a T-Shirt.

Lets face it, we are all naked anyway - under our clothes. So what matters is the amount of clothing you have on.

And in this respect, it is true there are graduations to being dressed or clothed. Your body can be fully covered, or partially covered - this can range from having no skin visible, to showing face, head, hands, feel, legs  - all the way to wearing nothing but some pasties or having everything hanging out, in your birthday suite as it were.

What about the term 'half dressed'? That term is highly  subjective - for instance, if it's freezing outside and I don't have a winter coat, I can be fully covered but still be considered to be 'half dressed'. If I'm on the beach, but I've forgot my hat, I can also be half dressed. Lets not forget that it is also culturally specific, what may be considered 'half dressed' in Australia is very different from Saudi Arabia.

I think the term 'half dressed', given it's subjective nature, can be used to indicate that the person was intending or expected to put on more clothes, but did not.

In the end, I hate the term 'half-naked' because it is designed to emphasis the naked part purely  for titillation purposes. Either be specific - 'she was in a bikini' - or don't mention what someone is wearing. Surely we should move beyond that anyway.
